Nuit Blanche
When I woke up today I was nearly dead. There was a pile of food in front of the tv that I dont remember eating or making, the tv was still on and some dumb french channel was on but not the one that plays Bleu Nuit, and a couple of Molson Cool shot cans were on the floor but I didnt buy them, nor would I ever. Needless to say I was hurting and could not find a doctor in the house to help me or any juice to drink. I was so thirsty that I drank a liter of Coke and then I went out for A&W when I could walk without beeing dizzy and had more cola and then I drank another liter in front of the tv tonight cause nobody made any juice while I was out. Next time Kate leaves for the weekend I am going to make sure she leaves me enough juice for the weekend. Anyway in my quest to kill the dehydration I drank too much coke and now I am caffein and sugar buzzed. It may be a long night of music downloading. My mission tonight is Archers of Loaf associated stuff. I have most of their albums already so here I go....

Drinking more than a litre of Cola can probably kill a person. That's what I've been told. I don't drink the stuff. I used to watch my grandfather terminate rust from my bicycle with some dark cola in a spray bottle. It worked on rust so I surely figured it would take a peice of my stomach one day. Now I just poison it with countless numbers of cups of coffee.
Anyway... with regards to your music mission: I'm not sure if you know but Eric Bachmann (the singer) did some stuff after; forming a band called Crooked Fingers. I was curious and went and saw them play back in 2000? At that point in time he was signed with Sonic Unyon. I'm not sure what he's up to now. The stuff wasn't bad. There were a few songs I really remember liking.
What ever happened to all those Chapel Hill bands?
Let Kate know that I checked her stuff out. It's good. I especially like the animal and documentary pictures. Maybe i just like cows... who knows? Alicia had both the phone booth and taxi cab shots in Seoul. Since we both liked them (and our appartment was hidiously empty)we decided to hang Kate's pictures on the wall. It was the start of a wonderful relationship between me and my appartment in Seoul.

Coke kills the evil that lives in me, I know its power and use it for my soul cleansing purposes or to remove burnt food in pots.
Crooked Fingers are great. I do have some of their stuff. I was looking for Low or Loe or maybe I am way off. I had no luck. Sonic Unyon is one of the best Canadian Labels though for sure. Chapel Hill got discontinued and everyone just moved to Montreal and started "Montreal" band like The Stars, The Dears, The Arcade Fire, The Thrills and other The bands.
I will let Kate know you like her pics.

Hi there Tuckshow. I had a friend similar to you... when he'd get drinking he'd blame his behaviour on the demon stuck in his body. I should have offered him a Coke I guess.
As for those Chapel Hill bands kicking the can, it's unfortunate. I feel like I'm getting old... seeing all these hot spots coming and going. Montreal has proven its worth over the last little bit. Take the old Thrush Hermit guy leaving Joel Plasket behind to do a short stint for The Dears. I thought Thrush Hermit was really getting somewhere with that last album of theirs "Clayton Park". I couldn't believe it when they called it quits. Joel blamed Rob. Rob knew the Halifax scene was dead and Montreal was hott! Who could blame him really? I heard he's tried doing solo stuff recently. I heard it sucks... that makes me happy.
I'm still mostly partial to the Toronto music scene.
Oh yeah... and the motown! hee hee
12:07 AM
Well Thrush Hermit was good but Joel Plaskett is good also. He just released his second solo album that he recorded down in Texas, I've yet to hear it but his first album Truthfully Truthful is pretty good.
The Toronto scene isnt good. Nothing about Toronto is good. I want to turn it into a senior's city and then wall it in and just have food drops and then the only music scene there would be the Eagles and whats left of Queen.
12:29 PM
Wow... I can't believe you hate the Toronto music scene as much as you say. I guess you're a no-fan for Royal City, Pete Elkas (ex Local Rabbits), The Constantine's, Great Lake Swimmers, Broken Social Scene (I'm not too big on them I guess either), and Paso Mino. That's too bad I say...
I'm not one hundred percent supportive of the Joel Plaskett comment either. I really loved his first two albums "In Need of Medical Attention" and "Down At The Khyber", but then started feeling like he was letting it slip a little with "Truthfully Truthfully". I have yet to hear his new stuff. I'm going to see him and Pete Elkas in a couple of weeks... I'll see if I like it then. I do like Joel Plaskett... when I made the earlier comment... it was on Rob Benvie doing solo shit... perhaps it's good too. Who knows?
Oh I'm sadden by our musical differences!

Okay, I dont hate the Toronto music scene I just hate the city. I admit that I dont know the Royal City, Pete Elkas and Paso Mino but I do know The Constantine's, Great Lake Swimmers, Broken Social Scene (bit boring but good background music). I want to get some Constantine stuff though cause I dont know well enough.
Okay again with Plasket I dont know his first two albums "In Need of Medical Attention" and "Down At The Khyber", but I am happy with "Truthfully Truthfully". Who is Pete Elkas? and I dont know Rob Benvie so screw him.
Best song ever today Milkman by Apex Twin

Okay... okay... I'm sorry about all this band babble. I'll refrain from it in the future. But I do just want to add a couple of things.
1). If you're thinking about getting some Constantine's stuff, I'd get the new one with the track Young Lions. I forget what the album is called... it's from SubPop.
2). Pete Elkas was a bit of a joke. He's excellent... that I wasn't kidding about... but that he was a Toronto musician. He used to play with a Montreal based band called the local rabbits. They were good. He's moved to Toronto recently and started a solo career (hence, my classifying him as a Torontonian sp?). I like it... look into his project called "Party of One". He tours with the Joel Plaskett Emergency a fair amount. He gets fantastic drummers like Don Kerr (Rheostatics), or Chris Murphy (Sloan), amoung others.
3). As for Paso Mino... they're a new band. Maybe I'll have to send you something via the internet...
As for the best song(ever)today...
I don't know of the one you speak of... I'll look into it.
Mine would have to be "Sports Car" Paso Mino. But with Spring coming on I usually put on some Frank Black & the Catholics or some good old Bruce Springsteen.
9:50 PM
Well I checked out two of Constantines albums and yes, yes they are good. I do like Shine the Light better than the self titled. Pete Elkas' album Party of One is not so bad either. I dont like it as much but I definietly see why he tours with Plaskett. I could not find any Palo Mino. Good suggestions though. And yes, they do all pale in comparison to Frank Black. I walked to work with Black Letter Days today.
6:47 PM
I'm happy to hear that you like the Constanines newest album. I really liked that Young Lions track the first couple of times I heard it.
But more importantly, I'm happy to know you're a Frank Black listener!!! I've been hooked for several years now. I'm partial to his "Teenager of the Year" and can't seem to play the track 'headache' enough. It gets me dancing like the motown hits!
