Me and the Joads

Tom Joad heard that there is work not too far from here and it pays well and they say it might be a weeks worth. It might be worth checking out. I should go with him.
I got payed yesterday, or not really. I got some money yesterday, I wouldnt want to call it pay for fear of insulting people who do get payed. What the hell does the government, employers, employees and everybody else think people can do when they make less than $10 an hour. I got payed for my two weeks and I barely make enough to pay my bills. I have the measiliest bills, no huge debts, no large financial burden yet by working 30 hrs a week I can barely survive even by eating shitty food and drinking cheap beer. Forget about saving anything or paying off my moderate student loan. I feel like in a trap similar to the Grapes of Wrath, although not a severe but really, if I were to stay like this I would have nothing in life. You can not have a child, a car, or even a dog unless you work 55+ hrs a week or have a plush job that gives you a false sense of security. Who knows how to get a plush job, all jobs I want are lower paying jobs so thats great. Even if I tried to get a high paying job that I hated I would never get it for lack of experience and pertinent training. Even with a degree and a EAD certificate I am pretty much destined for not-much-moneydom. It seems pointless going to work when I make less than $50 a day. I was making more in the states in a day then I do here in week.
Where is a nursing mother to give me some milk?

Wow, that sounds amazing. I worked for the city of Moncton in University killing mosquitos. It would be fun to go back to that. Yeah, if you dont mind could you send along his contact info por favor. Thanks for the heads up too, that is much appreciated.

As for the Vera Drake band name I like it quite a bit. I think it works well. My band is called Penguin Death Dance and our first album is due out near fall sometime. We are still recording it in our appartments.

First of all, someone tell Alicia that I will be in Toronto tomorrow at 725 until 810(not including the getting on and off the plane time). And that our second date can be at Saturday at 442pm until 835pm.(again not including airport time delays). Tell her I do apologize for the short notice but.... I think I might also be one of the busy types myself.

On that note, Tucker, you should do a website design for me. You design, I build, I sell. split 50:50 and you cant complain about jobs anymore. Interested? Oh ya and I bought a iBook today so i am now officially more debt than human.

and Peony, I like vera drake. If I was going to name a band though I would call them: Led Zepplin or Nirvana. or Pacman maybe, but whatever the name I think it is of the utmost importance to break copyright law.

hey guys... it wasn't vera drake... she's a real person... it's vivian drake! What about Vivian Drake... we want the initials to be vd... our first album will be called, "it grows on you". i think it would be funny.

i hope you don't mind... i've given my friend marcus your journal site... he's not nosey and i don't think he'll snoop around the way i did. i just told him about the job situation. he says he has no control until he finds out if he gets it. i don't know the circumstances and figured i'd let him tell you himself. maybe he knows of other interesting leads etc.

tyler:
good luck with alicia. i'll let her know that you'd make a nice gentleman caller.
hmmm...more debt than human... i'm trying to visually picture what that might physically look like.

chris:
I'm always job hunting (mostly at Montreal jobs b/c i need to pick up more french)... i'll forward you any interesting ones...

Okay Vivian Drake is much better than Vera and I especially like the initials and the first album name. What instruments do you play or is your band like DPD where we just use our computers?

Thanks for passing on word to your buddy. What type of work are you looking for in Montreal? I go through the media website job listing a few times a week and Ill pass stuff along if I know which type of stuff.

Tyler, I am in for the webdesign. Email me or send my your digits and Ill give you a ring.
Congrats on the Ibook. You make me jealous, great dog, great computer and you live in Frederictong. If you need any programs let me know and I will set you up.
I like your Pacman as a band name. Maybe my solo album will be called Pacman when I drop Conor.

yes... vivian drake is a much better name. i'm glad that there's concensus so our initials and album title can remain the same.

i play the guitar. an epiphone les paul model in sunburst. you? are you a computer player?

about the job search... i'm looking for more project research, material development, and/or a little of the hands on(front line staff) with newcomers and/or refugees. i doubt any of it will pop up on your media site... but keep me in mind if ever it does. i'm mostly looking for work in the immigration/settlement/human rights fields. blah blah blah

i didn't know you had a background in design. that's the same field as my brother (multimedia design). he's some hot shot in toronto... he frustrates most of us. he works for the 'mini' and 'fed ex' folks amoung many other big names. he had a 'tibor' book with him last time i saw him over the easter holiday... it was pretty cool. it was the first time i had ever been interested in learning more about design.

is montreal a hot spot for designers?

Peony, you have a nice guitar. I play a cheap Peavy and a saxamaphone and a djige. My computer is also an instrument but I am better on the sax.

I will keep my eyes out for those types of jobs.

I have a recent background in design, its actually what I title myself when I self described = graphic designer/luggage salesman. My stuff is here mostly:
http://tuckerdesigns.cjb.net
The t-shirts will be up on www.onetop.ca some time in the future but only the last two years are there now.

Your brother has good tast in Tibor, I like him too. Not my favorite but I like him. Montreal is a hot spot for advertising and design. Toronto is the daddy but Montreal is the hot mommy. There is much more money and bigger accounts there but nonetheless Montreal rules all of Quebec and has a much more artistic reputation if you will. Its in fact saturated with artists, designers and creative types so its hard to find work. MTL is more of a laid back, starving artist city though. Toronto eats you up and thats it. I like being here. I have been told I would have a much better chance finding decent work there but I would much rather work here.

Did you inform Alicia of a potential e-rationship?

I'm planning on checking your stuff out... thanks for the links.

as for tibor... i liked him but had no idea that there was better... inform me!

i understand why someone wouldn't want to be swallowed whole by toronto. it's cold and evil. i feel as though i'll soon sell my soul and move there for work. i'm dragging my heels the whole way though (kicking and screaming).

as for alicia and the e-dating.. i haven't told her yet. i think she might be busy with exams. i sent her a message last week but i haven't heard back from her yet. i think you should tell her she's being courted.

Stephan Sagemeister is one of my favorite designers. He is a concept heavy NY based designer who works primarily with CD covers now.
www.sagmeister.ca

Rinzen is a group of out Brisbane, Australia who do amazing stuff. Its mostly illustrated but stellar.

This guy is just awesome at what he does.

And finally a montreal based company Orange Tango has some sweet stuff but they just merged with a marketing company so their site has been down for awhile.
